Gosport Charity Pursuit Day
Saturday 16th June 2018

Minimum Donation: £50 (email us to book)

After the success of the 1st pursuit in 2016, and our even better pursuit in 2017 resulting in a prize for “youngest” crew, we are doing it again in 2018. Join our race crew, sailing out to the Nab Tower and back, all in aid of charity!

A great opportunity to sail a pursuit race on Fortissimo as part of the fun charity event organised by  Gosport Marine Scene. If you’d like to learn more about the event, the Rona Sailing Project who we are supporting and why then please take a look at our blog article and a write up of last year’s pursuit. If you are interested in joining the crew please get in contact (note that in the spirit of the event priority will be given to people who haven’t sailed with us on Fortissimo before), we’ll then ask you to donate to our chosen charity the Rona Sailing Project before confirming your place. Donate here!

We’ll confirm the exact start time once the organisers provide more details but we expect you’ll get to meet your skipper, first mate and fellow crew members at 08.30hrs.

First we will talk to you about safety, followed by a hands on introduction to your yacht. Our start time will be determined by our IRC rating and given that we’re probably the fastest boat in the pursuit we’ll be the last to start.

We then sail out of historic Portsmouth Harbour, past the many sights including Ben Ainslie Racing and the iconic Spinnaker Tower, through the entrance for the start of the pursuit course. With any luck we’ll have a little time to practice some manoeuvres as a team before we cross the starting line.

When we’ve completed the pursuit course we sail back into our Marina allowing time for a well deserved cup of tea and slice of home made cake. We are then hoping to attend the charity BBQ being held afterwards but you’ll need to tell us beforehand and you’ll need to cover the £10 entrance fee (cost to be confirmed).

One of our RYA instructors will be on board as skipper of the day. They will ensure that you are safe and sufficiently confident to be involved in all aspects of sailing the yacht. There will also be a first mate on board to ensure that you are well looked after.

The pursuit and BBQ all take place on Saturday 10th June 2017. It promises to be a fun filled day.

For the day we provide a home made lunch and our irresistible home made cake for afternoon tea. Squash, tea and fresh coffee are included.

Sailing waterproofs and all safety gear are provided.

Dress comfortably, ideally not in jeans and with enough clothing to be able to layer on and off (fleeces are good). We will kit you out with sailing waterproofs which also keep you warm.

You may need to bring a warm hat and pair of gloves OR you may need a cap or sun hat, depending on the weather.

Don’t forget your sun cream- whatever the time of year!

Our FAQ‘s give all the information you need.

Once you have made your donation and we’ve confirmed your place, we will send you a Booking Form to complete and also a set of Joining Instructions which detail where and when to meet.

Details will be confirmed closer to the time once the organisers have provided us with more information but we expect to meet 08.30hrs at Royal Clarence Yard Marina, Gosport.

We’ll plan our sail in more detail once the pursuit organisers have provided more information and we know the weather conditions. The outline plan is to leave Portsmouth Harbour and then sail a course out to the Nab Tower and back, racing against lots of other boats.
