For those at RYA competent crew and above and looking to learn more about high performance sailing. Develop wind awareness, hone skills and take your sailing to the next level. This will be a more intense, physical experience than our day sails, to develop race techniques and skills.

Join us onboard our Class 40 yacht ‘Fortissimo’ to experience the exhilaration and excitement of sailing a high performance racing yacht in the Solent.

This style of racing yacht has invariably been available to professional sailors only… until now that is!

Fortissimo is a safe and secure platform to develop race skills that will enhance all your sailing experiences.

This is a great day to build on what you have learnt as an RYA competent crew – to learn more advanced techniques and to expose you to more situations. A perfect foundation for those looking to become a Day Skipper or Yachtmaster, as the skipper should be the best crew onboard the vessel, and then sail the boat through others.

You meet your skipper, first mate and fellow crew members at 09.00hrs. First we will talk to you about safety, followed by a hands on introduction to your yacht.

We will then sail out of historic Portsmouth Harbour, past the many sights which include HMS Victory and the iconic Spinnaker Tower, through the entrance for the start of your training day.

We will practice tacking, gybing, pre-start boat handling, rope handling techniques, simulated race starts and spinnaker work. You will learn about wind awareness and apparent wind sailing, sail aerodynamics and even high speed knot tying! The concepts we explore on-board are relevant to both dinghy sailing and yacht sailing.

We will run through hands on physical training sessions, with demos and coaching, interspersed with some theory. We will practice manoeuvres and simulated racing scenarios followed by a debrief to digest the day with some well earned cake.

We sail back into our Marina for 16.30 allowing time for a well deserved cup of tea and slice of home made cake, before you depart for home and 17.00hrs- full of fresh air, cake and sailing memories!

One of our RYA qualified instructors will be on board as skipper of the day. They will ensure that you feel safe and sufficiently confident to be involved in all aspects of sailing the yacht. There will also be a first mate on board to ensure that you are well looked after.
