 Gosport Peninsula Charity Race

At Dream or Two Sailing we are passionate about realising the positive benefits to people’s lives that many of us know that sailing can bring. We also know that achieving this ambition requires us to be providing access to sailing for a wide cross section of society at large. As a result, when we spotted the Gosport Peninsula Charity Race, which is organised by the Gosport Marine Festival, we knew immediately that we’d like to be involved. The reason being that we saw this as a great opportunity to give something back by supporting some good causes whilst having lots of fun.

The next question was who we’d like to benefit from our participation. After some discussions within the team at Dream or Two Sailing we quickly realised that a charity that enabled access to sailing and was committed to using that access to support the promotion of both mental and physical well-being was what we were looking for. It also happens that some connections of ours at Newbury Yacht Club are heavily involved with the Rona Sailing Project.

One of the Project’s key aims is to provide opportunities for young people to learn new skills, develop a sense of responsibility, demonstrate resourcefulness and to put it all into practice using teamwork, all of which will help them throughout their lives. This immediately struck a chord with us and we’re proud that they will be our chosen charity partner for the event. To find out more about the wonderful work they do please take a look at their website:

The Rona Sailing Project do a fantastic job providing access to sailing to many different groups.

We’ve therefore decided to enter our Class 40 yacht Fortissimo into the pursuit on the 21st May and are now looking for some crew to help us navigate the race track out to the Nab Tower and back. We’ll be providing a skipper and first mate so there are a maximum of 6 crew spaces available to whoever would like to join us.

If you’ve not sailed on Fortissimo before then you’re in for a real treat and will be one of a select group who have the opportunity to experience a thoroughbred racing boat normally only sailed by professional teams. At the same time you’ll be helping to support a fantastic cause, so we expect this to be very popular and places will fill up quickly.

To become part of the crew for this event on 21st May we’re simply asking you to donate a minimum of £50 to our chosen charity, the Rona Sailing Project, although there is no upper limit to what you can donate. In return for your donation you’ll get to spend the day with us, enjoying the festivities and competing in the pursuit race.

There will also a BBQ in the evening that we’re planning to attend and would love as many crew and supporters to come along to as well. Please note that there is a £10 entrance fee for that event and you’ll be responsible for paying that if you intend to come along.

If it sounds like your sort of thing and you’d like to book a place with us for this fabulous charity event then please send an email to:

sail@dreamortwosailing.co.uk

We’ll then confirm your place and provide further instructions once your donation has been received (see Just Giving link below).

If you’d just like to donate to this wonderful cause then you can do so here:

Thanks in advance for all the donations and we’ll share the fun of the day via our website and social media. So please follow us to keep up to date on this and everything else we’re doing.
