About Dream or Two Sailing
We’d like you tell you more about Dream or Two Sailing and why we are committed to providing you with safe access to all the thrills and challenges of sailing a Class 40 yacht. We combine the excitement of the sailing with our own unique blend of coaching and instruction, enabling you to get the most out of your time with us. You’re never just a passenger, when you are on-board you are a team member and are an integral part of our success. To enable us to achieve this experience for you we have brought together a unique combination of skills both on and off the water. So we’d like to introduce you to the team:
James Close – Director
James joined Dream or Two in August 2013 and spends much of his time sharing his passion for sailing out on the water. He is an RYA Yacht Master Instructor, which enables him to use tried and tested techniques to develop skills and pass on knowledge when you are on-board.
He has been a keen sailor since the age of 12 and has raced in various classes of dinghy and currently sails an International Canoe. As a race tactician and the principal skipper of Fortissimo he enables all on-board to get the most out of your experience on a racing boat, whether you’re competing or just cruising.
Off the water James qualified as Graphic designer with BA honours and has worked with various companies before deciding to run his own business. He therefore brings a variety of skills to the business and you’ll already have seen his talents on this website.
Andrew Smith – Director
Andrew has worked as an RYA Instructor with Dream or Two for many years, a relationship that has led him to now become an integral part of the team. As well as Dream or Two he has worked as an instructor for a variety of sailing schools in and around the Solent, including our partners at Nomad Sailing.
He has a wealth of experience on boats of all shapes and sizes and completed his first circumnavigation during the 1989/90 Whitbread Round The World Race. Before this he served for 10 years as an Officer in the Royal Navy.
He has a passion for sailing and in particular for racing. Having participated in the Autumn & Spring Solent Series, Cowes week racing & corporate he is well practiced in the competitive aspects. He is proud to have completed both the 2013 & 2015 Fastnet Race and is looking forward to you joining him onboard Fortissimo on your next race.
As a senior relationship manager for an Investment Management firm in the City for over 18 years he also brings a wealth of other skills to Dream or Two. Andrew passionately believes in using sailing to develop skills and confidence in people and to inspire them to achieve their potential in life.
Martyn Ruks – Director
Martyn has recently joined the team at Dream or Two after being a client for many years. His passions for sailing and the skills needed to unlock them have been nurtured and developed by the team at Dream or Two and were a major reason for increasing his involvement.
Martyn is also an active member of the Newbury Yacht Club and a passionate advocate of how organisations like it are a key part of providing access to sailing. He is also a strong believer in the role that sailing can play in inspiring and developing the skills and talents needed within any modern business.
His background off the water has been in the field of Cyber Security and brings with him over 15 years experience in World Leading Professional Services. He firmly believes that the risk management expertise, education and outreach experience and thought leadership he has demonstrated in other industries can be of direct benefit to your sailing experience here at Dream or Two.
